Kris ha trabajado en la Escuela para Sordos de Nebraska y en salones de comunicación oral y total en las Escuelas Públicas Ralston en Omaha, NE. Comenzó a trabajar para Boys Town National Research Hospital en el Centro para la Sordera Infantil, el Lenguaje y el Aprendizaje en 1991. Durante los últimos 30 años, Kris se ha desempeñado como maestra de preescolar, proveedora de servicios para padres e infantes, coordinadora de educación temprana, consultora del equipo de implante coclear y consejera para niños sordos y con pérdida auditiva.​
